The Hotel Balmoral
We were thrilled to be asked to provided a broad range of sign removal services for a local sign company who were charged with removing the projecting sign at the notorious Balmoral Hotel in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
Tops Lighting were able to provide in addition to sign removal; policing, security fencing, DC line covering, transit approval, first aid, traffic management and more.
Outside of the normal considerations involved with sign removals, additional special considerations had to be taken to ensure the least impact on the community.
The hotel itself projects very strong negative memories in a vulnerable group of community residents, in this, the poorest ZIP code in Canada.
Days in advance notices were handed out and questions about the project asked by the community residents were answered.
Tops worked with the city to secure the work area in front of the hotel which required fencing after a soft move to those living on the sidewalk in front of the address.
Special removal and handling procedures were required as Lead was found to be in the sign's paint.
Specialized certified independent safety personnel and services were contracted including DC Trolley Line Feeder covering, Trolley Pole Pullers and Safety Watch
